18 Oct 2005, Huanyan was surfing the internet and looking at his friendster. Then he saw there was a new testimonial for Yanting, as shown at the Friend Tracker and decided to pop in to take a peep what other people say about her. It was a testimonial from Yoke Khee and he was shocked to see the content, especially the last few sentences: 'grinz looking forward to celebrating ur bday with u!'. He immediately knew that he had overlooked Yoke Khee and Ruilin, who are Yanting's best friends from her JC days. He knew that somehow or rather, his original plan was not going to go ahead as smoothly as he thought.

The final plan was revised and drafted out on the 20 Oct 2005. Huanyan smsed Yoke Khee after his Total War lecture, asking how was she going to celebrate Yanting's birthday. Not to his surprise and to his expectation, Yoke Khee and Ruilin were planning to bring her out on that day to celebrate. This was going to compromise with Huanyan's plan drastically cos Yoke Khee can only make it in the day as she needs to attend service in the evening. She first proposed that the three guys take over in the evening after their celebration in the day. Then she came out with the brillant idea: She will 'postpone' the outing and let us go ahead with the plan; then she and Ruilin will appear in the middle of everything and give Yanting a pleasant surprise. To Huanyan, this was a better plan than the original one. It was also later decided that she will settle the cake, so Alexander's role sorta became redundant. The following day, Huanyan also decided to invite another friend, Nicholas to join in... but he had his project to settle so sadly he had to turn them down last minute.

And so, after returning home and having washed up, Huanyan waited till after 10pm (cos Yanting had to do her New Media assignment) and began directing a show, doing a conference MSN exchange with Yanting, Kenneth and Kian Choon, telling them of the 30 Oct KTV session. It was all a bluff, cos Kenneth and Kian Choon already knew what was going on. The conference was just to tell Yanting to keep her birthday free for the KTV, by telling her the exact date, so she would not forget about that day and make other plans. As such, what was left was piecing together the Scorpio.

To Huanyan, planning the whole thing was the easy part. The most difficult part was piecing together that 1000 piece puzzle which he had bought. A look at the puzzle will allow anyone to appreciate the difficulty involved. The similarity in hues meant that there's a substantial level of difficulty involved, even for the most seasoned 'puzzle fighter'.

Therefore, in order to accomplish the task, he has to clear all his workload, which meant he had to complete all his essays and papers by the 23 Oct 2005. There was a sudden urgency to complete his essays and he had to resort to going to school early and leaving school late in order to finish all his essays. He even had to return to school on 22 Oct to complete everything. He managed to do it, though no one, including himself, knew how was it possible. Therefore, production started one day ahead of schedule.

Due to the lack of time, Huanyan decided to do what he had to do for his schoolwork while he was in school. It meant that he will do all his schoolwork and readings in school, instead of doing it at home. In addition, it also meant that he will isolate himself from the virtual reality of the MSN from 22 Oct onwards and he had to skip MPS and go back home straight after lesson to carry on production.

The puzzle was tough. At points in that week, he really thought that there were missing pieces and he stayed all night to do as much as he could for the puzzle and to what he couldn't complete, he would try early the following morning. As a result of this, which led to a lack of sleep, Huanyan resorted back to tea to keep himself awake in school. He had earlier quitted tea because it was causing him to stay awake at night but it was what he really needed most at that point of time. The puzzle was really giving him a big headache.Because there was some part which had almost the same colours, he had to resort to what he called 'the brute force method' to piece them together. Basically, he took one piece by one piece to try to fit them into another piece. It was a tedious process and he was exhausted mentally and physically just by trying to piece those jigsaw together. Finally, he was able to complete the puzzle by 27 Oct, two days ahead of schedule.

He had also earlier decided to launch a Surprise Part Two with this present, and Yoke Khee's surprise was to be Surprise Part One. The theory behind why the Scorpio was to be Surprise Part Two was because it was simply not practical to give it to her at Cash Studio. Huanyan's house, which was the production house, was located just a block away from Yanting's house. It will be a bit stupid to bring the puzzle, which was 50cm by 75cm, to the KTV, give it to her and expect her to bring it back home all the way from Apollo Center. So Huanyan decided to give it to her after everything, as he 'escorts' her home after the Part One. The presentation of the present would be done in front of the lift and this time, Alexander agreed to be the 'Federal Express' and the two guys will coordinate with a sort of secret language which only they could understand. This was to be Surprise Part Two and everything was just waiting to take place on 30 Oct.

Finally, the day arrived. Yanting and Huanyan agreed to meet up at 12 pm at the bus stop near their house, so that Huanyan could bring her to the place. On the bus 190, Huanyan, in order to make sure everything was in place and that Yanting was not suspecting anything, queried about Yoke Khee and Ruilin. Indeed, Yanting thought that they would only meet on the 3 Nov and therefore, Huanyan was able to confirm that she knew nothing about what was going to happen. They reached the destination at around 1.20 pm and Kian Choon and Kenneth began to arrive shortly after. Yanting was still innocently enjoying herself when Yoke Khee called Huanyan to inform him that they had arrived at Clark Quay MRT. Acting in a hurry, Huanyan grabbed his digital cam and went out, using the excuse that he needed to pass something to his friend. Then, he went to the MRT station and picked Yoke Khee and Ruilin up.

Upon reaching the KTV, the three began to set up the cake and after lighting up the candles, Huanyan called Kian Choon to pause the music so that they could make their magnificient entrance. And from here on, it's 'happy birthday to you'- Surprise Part One put into action as they entered the room. When the three entered, Yanting was caught in a state of surprise or rather shock, seeing two of her best friends appearing at a time when she thought she would never see them. For Yanting, it might as well be the best cake cutting for her, and well, it can be seen that she enjoyed the whole process.

Yanting and Huanyan left the KTV at around 8.10 pm, seven hours after they first checked in. Kenneth and Kian Choon had left way beforehand due to other committments. But the day was not over yet. There was still Surprise Part Two. Yanting was still amazed by what happened earlier on, and could not really think of what Surprise Part Two could be. On the way back, Yanting speculated a number of possibilities but well... it wouldn't be Surprise Part Two if Huanyan allowed her an easy guess. And so, as the bus approached Bukit Panjang, Alexander was already holding on to the Scorpio, waiting at the void deck.

Yanting did a few guesses for Surprise Part Two, namely, [the person who was escorting her back was not Huanyan but Alexander], [Huanyan had gotten her family members down, unfortuanately, Huanyan wasn't that capable enough yet although he did contemplated that possbility] and [Huanyan got some of her other friends out to wish her happy birthday]. Little did she realise was that the three guys had only given her a birthday card and nothing else. Well, that was supposed to be a hint or something for her, just that she didn't catch it.

Finally, they reached the void deck of Yanting's flat... and there it was waiting for her. The final piece of the whole operation: the Scorpio. The 1000 piece puzzle was there waiting for her. It was a puzzle coated with night lithum, which means that it could glow in the dark. She was totally dumbfounded. It turned out to be the puzzle which she had been looking for. It marked the completeness of her birthday on this fateful Sunday. As she said, she was 'so happy that she could die'.

So, the whole plan went on so smooth that it could hardly be just considered a success. It was the most spectacular of the most spectacular. This plan was only made possible by a few factors:
1. The whole thing was confidential from the start. Only five persons in NUS, namely Huanyan, Kenneth, Kian Choon, Yoke Khee and Ruilin knew what was going on and what will be happening for Surprise Part One. Only three, namely the three guys, knew about Surprise Part Two. Not even Huanyan's closest friends in NUS HQ knew about the whole thing. They just thought he was getting too busy with his work. Most importantly, only Huanyan knew how that day was going to work out. Yanting, for the past three weeks, had absolutely no idea that something like that was going to happen and she just thought that the three guys were just going to sing KTV with her, that's all.

2. The whole plan unexpectedly fulfilled some of Yanting's deepest desires. Firstly, she had secretly hoped that Yoke Khee and Ruilin could go to the KTV with her to celebrate her birthday but she had never told them about this because she knew that Yoke Khee was not the type of person who will go to such a place. Secondly, she had been looking for the Scorpio for ages. According to her, she had been looking for it at different jigsaw puzzle shops but she just couldn't find the puzzle. As such, within one day, the gang fulfilled two wishes for Yanting.

3. One thing was that no one had ever celebrated Yanting's birthday at such a scale before. To her, this was the first time she ever celebrated like that and it was even more shocking than the one she had gone through at 5 Oct, when her CAC camp friends celebrated an extremely prematured birthday with her.

The whole day could not have gone better for these people that day, especially for Yanting, who really really never expected such a thing to happen to her.
